Teaching My Kid Magic

My kid loves watching magic being performed on tv, so I thought I’d teach him some tricks he could impress his friends with at school. He has his own little gang of friends that think like he does and it’s pretty cute, I have to say.

These are tricks I had to teach him outside, but the problem was I hadn’t mowed the grass in a week. So before he got home from school, I pulled out my Worx WG775 CORDLESS electric lawn mower and cut the grass real quick. I’m so glad I got it because it makes the job so much faster and easier.

With the grass freshly cut, I taught my son some magic tricks on some nice clean grass that smelled amazing. He’s excited to show his friends when the time is right. It was fun to see him so interested in learning. I think he might want to be a professional magician, which I would fully support.

Learning Magic For My Friends

My friends and I usually get together once a week, mostly with each of us taking a turn with hosting. We’re always looking for different things to get into, so I got an idea after watching a movie about a magician. I could look up magic tricks to learn that would entertain us in a new way.

I started looking around online to see where I could buy the supplies for these tricks I was to learn. I found www.magictrickstore.com and was shocked at all the different items they had! I immediately had to go to the beginner’s category because I don’t know much about creating the illusion of magic.

They have all kinds of stuff, but for now I just got 2 DVDs to show me how to do certain tricks. I will definitely go back for more once I learn the basics. I even got a discount by being a member. Now I will go practice for this week’s get together!

Need To Hire A Magician?

Sometimes birthday parties or other parties can get stale and boring. Why not add a little excitement and hire a magician? Or how about a whole group that shows up at your party to perform different tricks and entertain adults or kids?

At www.thumbtack.com/events, you can type in ‘magicians’ and then the site will ask you a few questions. According to what kind of party you’re attending or hosting, the age of the people there, and how many will be there, you will be given a whole list of companies to choose from. Then you can get a free quote from those companies. It’s just that simple!

Before you book a single magician or a group of performers, make sure to look at any reviews you can find for quality assurance. If you want a true professional, ask if that is what they do full time, since some magicians just do the jobs for fun and may not take it seriously or be as good as the full time ones. Also find out what kind of experience they have and go to their website and see what kind of pictures are on there. If there are only pictures of themselves instead of them entertaining at a party, that’s a warning sign that you may not want to hire that particular magician.

Do your research to be assured of a great party, whatever kind it may be. Think of your budget also, as prices vary a lot and the better a magician is, the more they might cost. After you do your homework, you can go enjoy the party and not worry about anything!

The History Of Magic

Magic is one the oldest performing arts and the very first performance supposedly took place in 2700 B.C. by a magician named Dedi, but there is no solid proof of that. For certain though, the first magic trick was the cups and balls trick. After that, magic was associated with witchcraft and the occult, so it was on the decline.

Joseph Pinetti was a well known 18th century magician and was the first to perform the thumb tie effect. In the 19th century, Jean Eugene-Robert-Houdin was considered the father of modern magic and moved street magic to the stage. After he died, Harry Houdini was born and became famous for being able to escape many seemingly impossible situations. He is perhaps the most well known magician in history. Other famous magicians include David Copperfield, Criss Angel, and David Blaine.

There are many magic tricks/illusions that have been performed throughout history and still are to this day, maybe with enhancements or improvements. One of the most famous acts is of production, such as pulling a rabbit from an empty hat or the magician making themselves suddenly appear in cloud of smoke. There’s also the opposite of production, which is to make things vanish, such as their assistant disappearing, a coin or something else. Another popular trick is restoring an item to its original shape after being destroyed or torn up, such a dollar bill or a rope. Levitating and escaping are also well known illusions.

Magic has been performed on stage in various venues, on the street, on tv, at children’s birthday parties, as well as other places. Some magicians have added a shock value, such as sword swallowing, while other have added comedy, like Penn & Teller.

Many books have been published on the art of magic and many well kept secrets on illusions have been exposed. Despite these things, magic will always be entertaining, even if it’s not real. There will always be new tricks magicians will come up with that will amaze us and make us wonder how it was done. We all love to be entertained in one way or another, and magic will always be fascinating.

A Magical Story of Friendship And Kayaking

From a young age, I was always fascinated by magic, especially card tricks. I remember this one time my mom took me to a magic show. After all of the wonder and amazement I felt, I decided then that magic was what I wanted to do. However, due to the complexities of life, let’s just say that was a dream that never became a reality, although my love for the art never actually faded.

Many years later (around 20 or so), as a student in Chicago, something almost magical happened. One time I was walking to the other side of campus where a group of friends were waiting for me. On the walkway, just a few meters in front of me was this girl who was about my height and very attractive. As she was walking, she received a phone call and her handbag accidentally dropped, spilling the contents all over the pavement. Knowing this was my heaven sent chance, I hurried to help with her things, but one item among her belongings struck me. It was a pack of playing cards.

What girl walks around with a pack of cards? As we walked and talked together, I decided to ask about them and to my surprise, she told me she was a card magician. Well, not professionally, but a hobby she was taught by her step dad. She immediately brought back to life my suppressed love for magic and we talked about it endlessly, which is how we became friends.

Her name was Debra and she was from Bend, Oregon. We talked about many things in the course of our friendship, including childhood pastimes. Hers was kayaking with her Sevylor inflatable kayak which was expected anyway since that is part of the Bend culture. I asked her how a kayaker fell in love with magic and she told me about her stepdad, a guy named Bob, who came into her life when she was 10 and filled the void her biological father left. Sadly, Bob passed away when she turned 18. The cards she carries around in her bag were a present from Bob and she keeps them in his memory.

During the next vacation, she invited me up north to Oregon. Of course, I was excited because I’d never been there my whole life but I was scared thinking she was up to no good. I had told her many times about my phobia towards the water, but I knew she was planning to put me in a box. I wasn’t wrong, she put me in a kayak and then I was flowing downstream on Deschutes river.

That was one hell of an experience, so I looked up some inflatable kayak reviews for the next trip, or even on my own. Unfortunately, we were unable to hit it off after that. She claimed I was funny and sweet but I could only be a friend to her. I liked her a lot so I decided that we could be friends anyway, and that’s how we’ll be for a long time hopefully!

Want to Learn How to Juggle?

Every since my cousin was young, he loved learning card tricks, magic tricks, and it all began with juggling!  In fact, that’s how he got me started with juggling as well.  That summer, we began with hackey sacks and upgraded our way to full water bottles which lead to a lot of hilarious events.

So, why not go through some juggling basics?  This is a fun one:

Your turn 🙂
